Sue Lawless, Essex, United Kingdom.

A:
YES.
Well to clarify that answer... 99.9% of photographs can be enhanced by scanning them to a digital format. Every photograph presented to Scared Cat Scanning goes through a process of a digital clean (removal of any unsightly blemishes, scratches etc.) and then a sharpen (Clarifying the images slightly enhancing the end result).

Top of Page
R. Atkinson, Suffolk, United Kingdom.

A:
Send them any way you wish. Please package them in a way that affords them some protection from the rigors of the postal service. If they're important to you then add some insurance to the postal service you choose. We return all originals if a stamped self addressed envelope is provided or indeed the extra cost of return postage is included within your order.

Q:
Why should I have my photos scanned, what's the point?
Top of Page
Roger M., Devon, United Kingdom.

A:
Photos and prints do not last forever! They will fade with age! It's a good idea to preserve your photographic memories by having them scanned and saved digitally. Also you can then send your images to your friends and family around the world via the Internet or keep an online photo gallery for people to view and comment on.
Q:
I have a library of pictures that I want scanned and burnt to a CD. Do you have bulk discounts?
Top of Page
Nell McAndrew, Borders, United Kingdom.

A:
YES.
If you have a large order or perhaps an unusual request then please e-mail us with details and we can work on a cost that suits both parties. Always happy to oblige.
Q:
I'd like my photo to be faded to white around the edges in an oval shape and have it converted from colour to sepia tones. Can you do this type of special effect?
Top of Page
Victoria Silvstedt, fjordö, Sweden.

A:

YES.
We've e-mailed you a price on this request. If you require special effects then explain to us what you need in an e-mail and perhaps attach an example if you can. We can easily convert colour to black and white and fade edges or apply duotones or indeed produce a photo-montage from a number of images.

Q:

I'd like to send you a previously scanned in image for you to remove the aerial that looks as if it's sticking out of my friends ear?
Top of Page
Charlie O'Neale, Idaho, United States.

A:
Aaahh Yes. A common problem this! The old aerial sticking out of your friends ear!
Yes we can retouch images and take out any unwanted blemishes, aerials, friends or pets you wish. Of course we would need to see the original to understand the complexity of each request. Please do not send us any images over 4mb in file size without prior communication.
Q: What do you mean by confidential service?
Top of Page
Pamala, Kent, United Kingdom.

A:
Scared Cat Scanning offers a confidential service. Your details, postal address, e-mail address and photos are not disclosed to any other party. Your photos remain on our system for about two weeks before being completely erased to allow for any corrections/amendments you may wish to have done.
Q: What resolution do I need to be able to use my photograph in a printed brochure?

300dpi is the industry standard for photos at 100% of their reproduced size. Much of our work is for displaying on computer monitors which is around 72dpi.
